Preface

Anyone can use this manual to help grow a small, comprehensive, home-based community.

Eventually, an organizing committee could use this manual to help launch a formal Network of Home-based Communities. The Epilogue discusses how this might happen. Though this Network does not yet exist, for ease of reading, we write in the present tense as if it did. If and when an organizing committee forms, they would presumably modify this manual, but they could keep the present-tense verbs.

In the meantime, we, the co-authors of this manual encourage groups of whatever size, whether formal or informal, to experiment with the methods presented here and let us know about your experience so we can post your reports on our website at http:// . In addition, we invite individuals who would be interested in participating in such a network to indicate their interest. Reporting on experiments and indicating your interest could help encourage the formation of an organizing committee.

Partly because we live in the United States, some of the language here refers to this country. People in other countries, however, could substitute appropriate language – such as “Parliament” for “Congress” – and still use this manual.
